A Pakistan military tribunal has sentenced to death an Indian accused of espionage.

The army says Kulbhushan Jadhav was captured last year in Baluchistan province.

New Delhi had confirmed Jadhav was a former Indian navy officer, but denied he was involved in espionage activities, saying he had taken an early retirement from the military.  India also rejected a video confession as induced by torture.

No date for his execution was announced.

Pakistan has long accused India of training and funding separatist militants waging a low-level insurgency in Baluchistan.

India and Pakistan are nuclear-armed archrivals.  They have fought three wars since the partition of British-ruled India in 1947 and remain deeply suspicious of each other.
